Key findings
- 3 of 8 countries publish a comparable price. The lowest is Poland at £1,520; the highest published figure is £2,850, before travel.
- From the UK, 3 of 3 countries are cheaper than a private hair transplant at home before travel, and 3 after an example flight and 3 hotel nights. The lowest UK self-pay price we found is £5,500.
- No official waiting-time figure is published for this in the UK, Canada or Ireland that we could use; it is mostly bought privately.
- No verified comparable price in Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and China. A gap means we could not find a price the provider publishes itself, not that the treatment is unavailable.

What a hair transplant is
A hair transplant moves hair follicles from the back and sides of the head to thinning areas. In FUE the follicles are taken out one at a time; DHI is a version that implants them with a pen-like tool. The NHS does not offer hair transplants because they are cosmetic surgery. Clinics abroad usually sell a fixed-price package, often with “maximum grafts” instead of a number, so compare who does the work and what the package includes, not only the price.

Hair transplants are not available on the NHS because they are cosmetic surgery. The NHS says a hair transplant in the UK can cost anywhere between £1,000 and £30,000, and that clinics providing cosmetic surgery in England must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (NHS). On cosmetic surgery abroad, it warns that safety standards may not be as high and that clinics may not provide follow-up to the same standard (NHS).

How to compare hair transplant prices
- Ask for the number of grafts in writing, and how many you need for the area you want covered.
- Ask who does each step: the surgeon, or technicians supervised by the surgeon. Ask for the surgeon’s name and registration.
- Check what the package includes: hotel nights, transfers, blood tests, medicines, PRP and aftercare products.
- Ask which hospital or clinic the operation takes place in. Some sellers do not name it on their price page.
Do not travel for a hair transplant if
- Hair loss that has not been diagnosed or is still progressing fast: see a GP or dermatologist first.
- A medical condition or medicine that affects bleeding or healing, unless the clinic’s doctor has reviewed it in advance.
- Anyone expecting a guaranteed result. Density depends on your donor hair.
Before you book
- Read the official travel advice. The UK Foreign Office says it is aware of 7 British nationals who died in Turkey in 2025 following medical procedures.
- Send clear photos and ask for a written plan, the graft count, the price and what happens if you need a second session.
- Check your travel insurance covers planned treatment abroad. Most standard policies do not.
After you come home
- The result takes months to show. Ask the clinic for its follow-up schedule and how to send progress photos.
- Spreading redness, pus or fever after the operation need a doctor at home straight away.
Bringing results home so your own doctor can use them is covered in how to bring your results home.
Hair transplant abroad: questions
Where is a hair transplant cheapest abroad?
Before flights, the lowest published prices we found are in Poland (about £1,520), Turkey (about £1,840 to £2,850) and Hungary (about £2,030 to £2,560). The cheapest country is not always the cheapest trip: a short flight can matter more than the price difference.
How long is the wait for a hair transplant on the NHS?
NHS England does not publish a waiting-time figure for this that we could use. Ask your GP or dentist what the NHS offers in your case.
How much does a private hair transplant cost in the UK?
about £5,500 to £7,000 at the UK providers we checked, before any consultant fees they list separately.
What does the price of a hair transplant usually include?
On this site the price should cover one FUE session (sapphire FUE and DHI count as FUE), with the number of grafts where the clinic states it. Package rows say what else is included. Ask for the number of grafts in writing, and how many you need for the area you want covered.
How long do I need to stay abroad for a hair transplant?
2 to 3 days: consultation and blood tests, the operation (usually one long day), and a check or first wash the next day. Ask the clinic for the schedule in writing before you book flights.
