Some Bangkok hospitals publish lower package prices that are only for Thai nationals and foreigners living in Thailand. MedPark Hospital's colonoscopy package, for example, says “The price is exclusively for Thai nationals and expatriates residing in Thailand” (MedPark). We leave such prices out. The Bumrungrad surgical prices here come from a 2025 sheet hosted by an insurer, so ask the hospital for its current price.

Each runs its own service for patients from abroad. The booking time on each card is the hospital's own words; where it publishes none, ask for a date in writing before you book flights.

How it works for a visitor

  1. Ask for a written quoteSend the clinic your referral or reason for the gastroscopy and ask for an itemised price, the date, and what happens if the result needs follow-up.
  2. Before you goAsk your doctor whether to stop acid-reducing tablets or blood thinners beforehand.
  3. Before you goBook the test before the flights and get the time in writing.
  4. LanguageThai; the large Bangkok private hospitals work in English and many other languages.
  5. Entry rulesCheck the official advice for your passport before booking: UK citizens (FCDO entry requirements), Canadian citizens (travel.gc.ca), US citizens (State Department, choose the country), Irish citizens (DFA travel advice, choose the country).
  6. After you returnBring the report, the photos and any lab results to your doctor.

Can your public system pay for it?

NHS and HSE schemes do not reach Thailand. The NHS S2 route covers state treatment in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and the HSE schemes cover the EU, EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Treatment in Thailand is paid by you or by a private insurer who agrees in advance. NHS S2 route, HSE Treatment Abroad Scheme.

When not to travel for a gastroscopy

  • Vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing or weight loss you cannot explain: these need an urgent pathway at home.
  • Travelling alone after sedation. Clinics usually require someone to collect you.

How to compare gastroscopy quotes

A gastroscopy is a camera test of the food pipe, the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. It takes 5 to 15 minutes with a throat spray or sedation. Small tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken, for example to test for Helicobacter pylori, and sent to a lab.

  • Check whether sedation is in the price.
  • Ask how biopsies and the Helicobacter test are charged and when the results come.
  • Some clinics sell a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy in one session; compare the combined price with each on its own.

We list providers because they publish a price, not because we recommend them. No clinic pays to be listed, and we have not visited any of them.

Gastroscopy in Thailand: questions

How much does a gastroscopy cost in Thailand?

The published prices we found range from ฿17,500 to ฿19,000, about £388 to £421 or $519 to $563. They come from BNH Hospital and Vejthani International Hospital. Each covers something slightly different, so read what is included before comparing.

Is a gastroscopy in Thailand cheaper than paying privately in the UK?

We do not have both a UK price and a comparable Thailand price for this, so we cannot say. Compare the published prices on this page with a written quote from a UK provider.

Will the NHS or HSE pay for a gastroscopy in Thailand?

No. The NHS S2 route and the HSE schemes cover planned treatment in Europe only. Thailand is outside them, so you pay yourself or through a private insurer that agrees in advance.

How many days should I plan in Thailand?

1 day: about 6 hours without food before the test, then rest after sedation. That is our planning estimate, not medical advice: the clinic sets the schedule, and you should ask it for one in writing.

What should I check before booking a gastroscopy in Thailand?

Check whether sedation is in the price. Ask how biopsies and the Helicobacter test are charged and when the results come.
