A sapphire hair transplant in Turkey is an FUE hair transplant in which the tiny channels for the grafts are opened with a sapphire blade instead of a steel one. At the Istanbul clinics that publish prices, a package labelled sapphire cost €2,200 (about £1,840) at Euro Istanbul Clinic and €3,200 (about £2,680) at Vera Clinic when we read their pages on 4 November 2026, while Clinicana says the blade is the surgeon's choice and not a separate price tier. The word sapphire describes one tool used in one step of the operation. It does not tell you who performs that step, where, or how many grafts you will get, and those are the things that change the result and the price.

Short answer

A sapphire hair transplant is FUE in which the surgeon opens the channels for the grafts with a sapphire blade. In Istanbul, Euro Istanbul Clinic sells a sapphire package at €2,200 and Vera Clinic at €3,200; Clinicana does not charge extra for it. None of the pages we read shows that the sapphire blade gives better results, so compare clinics on the surgeon, the facility licence and the graft estimate, not the blade.

Vera Clinic, Sapphire FUE

What “sapphire” means in a hair transplant

FUE, follicular unit extraction, is the method most Turkish clinics sell. The NHS describes it in three steps: the back of the head is shaved, individual hairs are removed one by one as grafts, and the grafts are placed into tiny cuts made in the scalp (NHS). Sapphire changes only the tool for the last step. Clinicana calls sapphire hair transplantation a variation of FUE that uses sapphire blades for channel-opening, selected by the surgeon according to the graft size and the density needed (Clinicana). On Vera Clinic's package, the incision is made with a sapphire blade and the grafts are placed with forceps (Vera Clinic).

So a sapphire hair transplant in Turkey is not a different operation from FUE. The donor area, the number of grafts and who makes the channels are the same questions as for any FUE.

These are the clinics we found that publish a price and say what sapphire means on their own page. Prices are per package, not per graft.

Prices read on 4 November 2026 on each clinic's own page; sterling at the European Central Bank rate. Listing a clinic is not a recommendation, and no clinic pays to appear.

The €1,000 gap between the two sapphire packages is not about the blade. Vera Clinic names its surgeons and adds PRP and laser therapy; Euro Istanbul Clinic offers up to 6,000 grafts in one price but does not say which hospital or surgeon. Vera Clinic's own guide puts Sapphire FUE in Turkey at €2,000 to €4,500, standard FUE at €1,500 to €3,500 and DHI at €3,000 to €6,000; that is a clinic's estimate of the market, not a price you can book. Every clinic that publishes a price, with the trip cost from the UK, Ireland, Canada and the US, is on best hair transplant clinics in Turkey, which also compares DHI and FUE.

What the sapphire blade does not tell you

Clinics sell sapphire as an upgrade. Vera Clinic describes its sapphire package as giving smaller incisions and faster recovery, but none of the pages we read cites evidence that the final result is better, and Clinicana does not charge more for it. Three things matter more than the blade:

  1. Who opens the channelsTurkish rules from 2023 let only a doctor with a hair transplant certificate, a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist open the channels; other staff work under that doctor (Resmî Gazete, in Turkish). Ask for that doctor's name.
  2. Where the operation is doneA hair transplant unit may only work inside a licensed hospital, medical centre or polyclinic. Ask for the facility licence that lists the unit.
  3. How many grafts, in writing“Maximum grafts” or “up to 6,000” is not your number. Ask for the estimate after the clinic has seen photos of your donor area.
  4. What the stay includesHotel nights, transfers, medicines and the check the next day. Packages here range from no hotel to three nights.

Unshaven and no-shave hair transplants

Some people searching for a sapphire hair transplant in Turkey also want to avoid shaving. Clinicana lists unshaven FUE, priced individually: it says working around existing hair takes more care and can take longer, so the price may be higher, and that it is often chosen by women who want to keep their hair length (Clinicana). Ask whether the whole donor area or only strips of it will be shaved, and how that changes the number of grafts.
